  1. What are the advantages of a SolarShield Retractable Awning?
The "SolarShield" Retractable Awning is the only lateral arm awning system to introduce a "spring-loaded" shoulder joint to instantly absorb the shock of sudden wind and heavy rains.
Its all aluminum powder coated frame and components; along with stainless steel cable and hardware, make your awning maintenance free.

  2. What are the advantages of retractable awnings?
Allows for expansion of living space without unsightly poles or frames. They let you choose between sun and shade.

  3. What is a "spring" loaded shoulder joint?
The shoulder joint is the hinged point where the extension arm attaches to the mounting frame; which is the point of most stress. Our spring loaded shoulder joint acts as a shock absorber, instantly protecting the awning from damage due to wind and rain that would damage an ordinary awning.

  4. Can the SolarShield Retractable Awning be used in rain or wind?
If the "SolarShield" is installed properly, and has the recommended minimum pitch, it is safe to use in light to moderate rain and wind. But remember, it should never be left unattended; as heavy rain could cause water to pool on the fabric, and high winds could possibly damage the frame.

  5. Will a Retractable Awning put any stress on the home?
When extended, the awning does put strain at the point at which it is mounted to the wall; but wind load testing was conducted on ordinary 2" x 4' stud construction walls without any adverse effects. Even under extreme pressure, the spring will generally release before any structural problem can occur.

  6. What maintenance is required?
The beauty of these awnings is the fact that they are practically maintenance free. In land areas; wash the frame and fabric once per year with mild soap and water. In salt water areas, we recommend washing once per month.
